Background
The client built a costly well water treatment site including RO membranes and cartridges with the objective of bringing the well water to drinking water standards.
When the system began to operate, the cartridges clogged quickly, requiring frequent replacement leading to unforeseen expenses including cartridge replacement and added labor costs.
At this stage, the project was not economical, and the customer contemplated closing the site, which would have led to even higher expenses.
In an effort to prevent this, the client contacted Amiad Water Systems with the hopes of finding an efficient, cost-effective solution.
Challenge
The existing sand separator was not protecting the cartridges as required, and the client asked Amiad to propose a solution that would make the cartridges functional for a period of at least one month.
The treatment site is a long distance from the client’s offices and is not easily accessible.
Because the site was not regularly supervised, it was not known if it was functioning correctly, adding costs to maintaining proper operation.
Solution
Upon arrival at the site, Amiad conducted water quality testing throughout the complete process to get better insights as to where the problem originated. This was essential in order to design a system that could cope with
the various challenges.
After analyzing the test results and discussing the findings with the customer, Amiad installed 8 x 3” Spin Klin™ disc filters, external source, 20 micron.
Results
After installation, Amiad and the client continued to monitor the performance of the disc filters and the cartridges.
The lifetime of the cartridges increased threefold.
Satisfied with the results, the client purchased the system and it has been successfully operating since January 2021.
The results were so good that the client decided to buy a similar system for an additional project.
