Background
The Villa d’Este is a 16th-century villa in Tivoli, near Rome, world famous for its terraced hillside Italian
Renaissance garden. The major attraction at Villa d’Este is its abundant fountains with their superb water displays, which operate continuously.
It is now an Italian state museum, and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Challenge
The water feeding the fountains at Villa d’Este comes from the local Aniene River and contains high levels of sand and biological particles.
Reliable and high-quality filtration is essential to maintain the steady and consistent flow of water to the fountains. The client contacted Amiad for the filtration solution.
Solution
The filtration of the river water is carried out at a filtration station consisting of five Amiad MCFM filters installed in 1999 and operating without any issues since 2000.
Depending on water quality throughout the different seasons, all 5 filters work together ensuring that the water is clean and free of sand or mud.
The performance of the MCFM filters continues to be outstanding, even after 23 years of operation – a testament to their long-lasting quality.
Results
The MCFM filters successfully filter the water from the Aniene River throughout the year, even during
the rainy season when there are high loads of sand.
Having quality filtration keeps the fountains in optimal performance, and Villa D’Este can remain open year-round and welcome tourists coming from all over the world.
